Adopt-a-Family benefits record number of families
On October 15th, one day after the federal election, The Hope for Children Foundation launched its Christmas and Adopt-a-Family programs. At the time, politicians were still hailing Canada’s strong financial outlook. But by November, the picture had changed and we became concerned about the impact of an economic downturn on our fundraising activities during Christmas and the New Year.
Instead, we experienced a pleasant surprise! The 2008 Christmas and Adopt-a-Family Programs were more successful than ever. A record 840 families requested support with a record number of donors responding. Moreover, concerns about the economy did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of those donors. “Donors were even more generous this year,” says Isabel Dutra, the Volunteer Supervisor who coordinates the Adopt-a-Family program at the CCAS Toronto Branch. “Our donors recognized that with the harsh economic conditions, our families needed more support than ever. The donors responded to that need,” says Isabel. click here to read some thank you letters from families.
Heart-to-Hand
Our agency is blessed by the support of a community-based group called Heart to Hand that assists our families throughout the year with generous donations of food boxes. They go above and beyond the call every Christmas, adopting more than 120 families. We wouldn’t be surprised if their support exceeded $100,000!
CHUM Christmas Wish
Our Christmas programming wouldn’t be complete without the participation of the CHUM Christmas Wish Foundation. Their generosity allowed us to assist more than 400 families by providing food vouchers and wonderful toys and games for the children, all donated by caring members of the community.
VOXDATA Employees Give Hope
Lisette JeanBaptiste and Blanche Carino from Voxdata Call Centre Inc. had their hands full for most of December. Wanting to involve their colleagues, they called the Hope for Children Foundation and decided to participate in Adopt-a-Family. "I knew my colleagues had a big heart," says Lisette, "we put our own spin on our fundraising and had fun as a team." The group organized a super bingo, a raffle, and a joker poker. They managed to raise just over 50% of their goal, and Voxdata matched employee efforts.
"It was a great experience and I am extremely happy that we were able to contribute to help families have a better holiday, bring smiles to their faces and comfort to their hearts. I am certain that the Hope for Children Foundation touches and aids many people. Please keep up the great work!" concluded Lisette.
